I was subscribed to Microsoft 365 Personal since early september. Then I made an up grade to Microsoft Family at the end of september.I was charged for both and I only wanted to keep the family... Shouldn't I get a refund for the personal one.

An upgrade should do a 92% conversion for the remaining days instead of charging you for the second one.

You definitely need to reach out to support.

This is a public forum, so for your privacy and security, we can’t help with billing issues here. Also, no one in this forum has access to your account or payment information.

To get help, open the "Get Help" app on your computer (just search for it in the Start menu). or go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Microsoft 365" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent who has access to your account to help review the issue.

Yes—possibly, but refund eligibility is determined during cancellation.

For subscriptions purchased directly from Microsoft:

    1. Sign in with the Microsoft account used for the Microsoft 365 Personal purchase.
    2. Go to Services & subscriptions: https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365
    3. Select the Personal subscription, then choose Cancel subscription or Manage > Cancel.
    4. During cancellation, Microsoft indicates whether that subscription qualifies for a refund and guides the next steps.

    Relevant policy points:

    • Not all cancellations result in a refund.
    • In most cases, a refund may be available within 30 days of the initial purchase or before the first recurring billing date, whichever is sooner.
    • A refund of the most recent recurring billing charge may also be available if cancellation happens within 30 days after payment, limited to one time per Microsoft account, per subscription product.
    • In some countries/regions, prorated refunds are available.
    • If Turn on recurring billing appears instead of Manage or Cancel, the subscription is already set to expire and no further billing should occur.

Since the Personal plan was upgraded to Family at the end of September and both were charged, also check whether the Personal subscription is still active separately. Family sharing does not automatically cancel another subscription.

If the refund option does not appear during cancellation, use Microsoft support: Contact Microsoft Support.

If the subscription was purchased through Apple App Store, Google Play, or another retailer, the refund must be requested from that seller instead of Microsoft.

Also note: canceling Microsoft 365 reduces storage back to 5 GB of cloud storage and 15 GB of Outlook.com storage. If Family was shared with others, their storage allowance is also reduced if that shared subscription is canceled.
