MS Gothic should be installed by default, but it doesn't display in alphabetical order in the Latin fonts the first group of fonts in the font dropdown. Instead, it appears further down the list with East Asian fonts, after Meiryo UI and before MS Mincho.

John Korchok's answer is the most appropriate but the easy way is to simply click the currently indicated font name in the name box, type MS Gothic, then press Return. If the font is installed [as it is with most versions of Mac Office programs] that should work.

Hello and good day. To add to the above, you must install them into macOS using the built-in Apple Font Book app and you can also see the link below as a reference.

    Hi @Julia Poirier

To use MS Gothic in Word on Mac:

    1. Open Word, click the font box on the Home tab, and type MS Gothic. If it's listed, select it (stay online, as some fonts download when first used).
    2. If it's not listed, go to Help > Check for Updates, update Office, and restart Word.
    3. If it's still missing, get the font file from a trusted Microsoft source, double-click it, click Install Font, and restart Word.

Please tell me your Office version (Word > About Word) if it still doesn't work.

MS Gothic is not installed through Word itself. Fonts must be installed in macOS, and then Word can use them.

    For a MacBook Pro:

    1. Obtain the MS Gothic font file.
    2. If the download is a .zip, open it first.
    3. Double-click the font file.
    4. In the font preview window, select Install Font.
    5. macOS opens Font Book and installs the font.
    6. Close and reopen Microsoft Word.
    7. Check the font list in Word for MS Gothic.

If the font is not already available on the Mac, a custom copy must be downloaded or otherwise obtained first. Office can use installed system fonts, but it does not download fonts directly.

If a document still opens with a different font, that usually indicates the original font is missing on the Mac. Installing the missing font in Font Book resolves that in many cases.
