Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
If this is an Azure subscription, use the Azure portal:
- Go to Cost Management + Billing.
- Select Subscriptions or Azure subscriptions.
- Select the subscription.
- Select Cancel.
- Select Cancel subscription.
- Choose a cancellation reason.
- If prompted, select Turn off resources. Back up any data first, because services are disabled after cancellation.
- Select Cancel subscription to finish.
Important details:
- Only the Subscription Owner can cancel an Azure subscription.
- After cancellation, billing stops immediately.
- It can take up to 10 minutes for the cancellation to appear in the portal.
- After cancellation, services are disabled. For example, virtual machines are deallocated, temporary IP addresses are freed, and storage becomes read-only.
- The Delete subscription option is available 3 days after cancellation for customer-led subscriptions.
Before canceling, Microsoft recommends:
- Back up data.
- Stop running services.
- Delete resources if planning to later delete the subscription.
If this is a Microsoft consumer subscription instead of Azure:
- Go to Subscriptions at https://account.microsoft.com/services.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account used to buy the subscription.
- Find the subscription and select Manage.
- Select Cancel or Upgrade or Cancel.
- Follow the prompts to complete cancellation.
If Turn on recurring billing appears instead of Manage, the subscription is already set to expire and no further cancellation is needed.
If charges continue after canceling a Microsoft subscription, one documented reason is canceling less than 2 days before the billing date.
