Azure Test Plans test runs fail with AccessDeniedException despite permissions
Starting a test run stopped working for my user. Any attempt to execute a test case fails immediately, including test cases that I had successfully executed before in the same test plan.
An error banner appears with the message below, and the run never starts.
“You do not have the appropriate permissions to manage test configurations, test settings, test variables, or test resolution states in this team project.”
{ “$id”: “1”, “innerException”: null, “message”: “You do not have the appropriate permissions to manage test configurations, test settings, test variables, or test resolution states in this team project.”, “typeName”: “Microsoft.TeamFoundation.TestManagement.WebApi.AccessDeniedException, Microsoft.TeamFoundation.TestManagement.WebApi”, “typeKey”: “AccessDeniedException”, “errorCode”: 0, “eventId”: 3000 }
Access Level of my user is Basic + Test Plans. An Azure Test Plans trial is active in the organization (30 days), which has no user cap during the trial period. Project-level permissions: Manage test configurations and Manage test environments = Allow, inherited from Contributors and Developers. Area Path permissions for the area used by the test plan: Manage test plans and Manage test suites = Allow, inherited. I removed and re-assigned the access level of my user; no change. The retired Test Manager extension is not installed in the organization. Full sign-out (aka.ms/VsSignout + MSA sign-out) and a fresh incognito session make no difference. The test points have a valid configuration assigned (Windows 10). Happens in every test plan and every suite in the project, not just newly created ones.
Is this a known issue with the license remediation rollout, and is there anything that can be done on the organization side, or does this require a support ticket for the account?
