Hi Patty,
Thanks for reaching out.
In Teams, the person shadowing you sees a digital capture of your Windows screen, so lowering the physical brightness on your monitor usually won’t change what they see. To make the shared content appear darker for them, you need to adjust your Windows display settings on the device you’re sharing from.
To do this, please follow these steps (The following guidance is for Windows devices. If you are using a different device, please let me know):
- Turn on Night light
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to System > Display.
- Under Brightness & color, turn Night light on.

- Click Night light and use the Strength slider to set how dark you want it.
- Stop Windows from auto-adjusting brightness
- Go to Settings > System > Display > Brightness.
- Turn off Change brightness automatically when lighting changes, if available.
- Also turn off Change brightness based on content, if available.

- This prevents the shared image from brightening or dimming unexpectedly.
- Use dark mode
- Go to Settings > Personalization > Colors.
- Under Choose your mode, select Dark.

- This darkens Windows and many supported apps.
- Use high contrast theme
- In Teams, click Settings and more (...) next to your profile picture.
- Go to Settings > Appearance.
- Set Theme to High contrast.

- This only affects the Teams window, not other apps.
I hope the information I shared earlier was somewhat helpful in addressing your issue. If you have any further questions or updates, please don’t hesitate to share. I’m always happy to assist further if needed.
