A desktop publishing application from Microsoft that focuses on page layout and graphic design.
No. Publisher obtained through Microsoft 365 cannot be locked to keep working after October 1, 2026. After that date, Microsoft 365 subscribers will no longer be able to access Publisher, and they will no longer be able to open or edit Publisher files in the Microsoft 365 version of the app.
Supported options in the available guidance are:
- Continue using Publisher with current functionality until October 1, 2026.
- Convert existing
.pubfiles before that date:- For viewing: open the file in Publisher, then File > Save as > choose PDF.
- For editing: convert the Publisher file to PDF, then in Word go to File > Open and open the PDF. The document opens as a Word file, but layout can vary from the original, especially with graphics.
- If many files need conversion, use automation such as a PowerShell script for bulk export.
- If a perpetual version of Publisher is already available, it can still be installed and used beyond October 2026, although support ends in October 2026.
A Microsoft 365 installation does not have a supported way to prevent this retirement behavior locally.
