Hello,

I had a Microsoft account with my previous employer, but the account has been disabled since I left the company. I cannot log in to remove the account, nor can I remove the account from my list of accounts.

Is there a way to remove the account without logging in or contacting the organization administrator?

If the account is only connected to the Windows device, it can usually be removed without signing in:

  1. Open Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
  2. Select the old work account.
  3. Choose Disconnect.

This removes the account from the device.

If the old organization still appears in the account’s organization list, self-service removal is only available when the organization allows it. In the My Account portal, only other organizations can be left, and the action requires confirming Leave organization. If that option is unavailable, the tenant administrator must remove the account association.

If the account is a guest account in another organization, it can usually be left without admin help, but in some cases that option is not available and the tenant admin must delete the account in the external organization.

If the account is the home organization for a managed work or school account, it cannot be left by the user.
