An Azure native disaster recovery service. Previously known as Microsoft Azure Hyper-V Recovery Manager.
Hi Priya,
If you mean Azure Site Recovery (ASR), the storage account you are probably looking for is the cache storage account used during replication.
For an existing protected VM, you can identify it from the Recovery Services vault:
Open the Recovery Services vault used for Site Recovery.
Go to Protected Items > Replicated Items.
Select the VM you want to check.
Open Properties.
Check the Cache storage account listed for that replicated item.
For Azure-to-Azure Site Recovery, this cache account is located in the source VM's region. Changes from the source VM are temporarily written to the cache account before being replicated to the target region.
One thing worth clarifying is that Site Recovery is for disaster recovery/replication rather than backup. With current Azure-to-Azure ASR deployments, the replicated VM data is ultimately maintained on replica managed disks in the target region. The cache storage account is only an intermediate part of the replication process.
If you are actually referring to Azure Backup rather than Site Recovery, that works differently. For standard Recovery Services vault backups, you normally don't select a storage account to hold the backup data. Azure Backup and the Recovery Services vault manage that storage automatically.
If you can confirm whether this is Azure-to-Azure, VMware/physical-to-Azure, or Hyper-V-to-Azure, I can also point you to the exact storage role for that ASR scenario.
Hope this helps.
