About a week ago, i unknowingly disabled my keyboard shortcuts that i use all the time (i.e. ctrl + c, v, r, d, etc). even the copy and past using the right click on the mouse doesn't work. all of those functions/shortcuts work in other microsoft programs, just not in excel. i'm running excel 2016. i've tried every fix i could find online but nothing has restored those commands. i've ran the excel / safe mode and it still doesn't work. any help would be amazing. thanks!

    Hi J Pick,

    Greatly appreciate your response.

If that's the case, since you're using Excel 2016, this may be a known issue related to the copy-paste feature after the security update KB5002914 for Excel 2016 on September 08, and Microsoft released KB5002665 on September 16 to correct it.

Therefore, please follow the steps in this article September 16, 2026, update for Excel 2016 (KB5002665) | Microsoft Support to download the latest update to see if it helps resolve the issue.

    Hi J Pick,

Based on what you shared, since the shortcuts and right-click commands work in other Microsoft programs, this is isolated to Excel 2016. Because Safe Mode did not restore the commands, please try these steps next:

    1/ Repair Office

    • Close all Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
    • Open Settings (or press Windows + I) > go to Apps > Installed apps.
    • Find the Office 2016 package > select the three dots (…) next to it and choose Modify.
    • If prompted by User Account Control, select Yes.
    • Run Quick Repair first. If the problem persists, run Online Repair later.

Note: if you're using Windows 10, there is no three dots option. In Windows 10, go to Settings > select Apps and Features > select the Office product and then select Modify.

    2/ Reset Excel's registry configuration

    • Press Windows key + R > type regedit > OK to open Registry Editor
    • Navigate to this path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Excel
    • Right-click the Excel key and rename it to Excel.old
    • Close Registry Editor and restart Excel. It will create a fresh configuration key.
    • Test the shortcuts to see if it works properly now.

Hope this will help. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post. I'm happy to assist you further.
