How to recover missing Sway file

Does anyone know how to recover a missing Sway file? It was last accessed in late August 2026 and doesn't appear in the deleted section. The Sway topic covers sequential steps for a Junior College course.

'This Sway is unavailable, most likely because it has been deleted or the link is erroneous. If you are the owner, check your deleted Sways.'

Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Colin,

If you're seeing the message below:

"This Sway is unavailable, most likely because it has been deleted or the link is erroneous. If you are the owner, check your deleted Sways."

and the Sway does not appear in the Deleted Sways section, recovery options may be limited. However, I recommend trying the following:

    • Verify that you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that was originally used to create the Sway. If you have multiple personal, work, or school accounts, please check each one.
    • Check whether you previously exported the Sway to Word or PDF, or shared it with collaborators who may still have a copy.
    • If the Sway was created using a school account, contact your Microsoft 365 administrator. They may be able to determine whether the Sway was deleted or if ownership/access has changed. In some cases, administrators can reassign Sways owned by deleted users within the available retention period.
