If Windows will not remove the printer normally, use this sequence:
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer.
- Select Remove, then confirm with Yes.
If the printer still remains or will not reinstall correctly:
- Restart the Print Spooler service:
- In the taskbar search box, type services and open Services.
- On the Standards tab, double-click Print Spooler.
- Select Stop > OK.
- Clear the spooler files:
- In the taskbar search box, enter %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers.
- Open %WINDIR%\system32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in that folder.
- Start the spooler again:
- Open Services again.
- Double-click Print Spooler.
- Select Start.
- Set Startup Type to Automatic.
- Select OK.
- Go back to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and try Remove again.
If the printer is removed but needs to be added back:
- In Printers & scanners, select Add device and follow the prompts.
- If Windows cannot install it automatically, select Add manually.
- For a printer connected directly by USB, choose Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
- Select Use an existing port, choose the correct port, then select Next.
- Install the driver by selecting Have Disk if a driver disc is available, or select Windows Update.
- Select the printer manufacturer and model, then complete the wizard.
- Print a test page to confirm it works.
Deleting files in the spooler folder only clears pending print jobs and spooler data, but it should be done carefully.
