Try these fixes in order:
- Correct the PC date and time.
- Open Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time.
- Turn on Set time automatically.
- Select Sync now.
- Incorrect time can cause certificate errors such as "Your connection is not private".
- Check whether the problem is browser-specific.
- Try the same download in another browser.
- If it also fails there, the issue is likely network-related rather than Chrome-specific.
- Test the network connection.
- Restart the router or try a different network.
- If possible, use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi‑Fi.
- Reset network components in Windows.
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Run these commands in order:
-
netsh winsock reset -
netsh int ip reset -
ipconfig /release -
ipconfig /renew -
ipconfig /flushdns
-
- Restart the PC after running them.
- Check proxy settings.
- If a proxy is enabled, verify it is correct or disable it for testing.
- Proxy or HTTPS interception can block downloads or trigger certificate/privacy errors.
- If using Ethernet, verify the cable and port.
- Make sure the cable is firmly connected on both the PC and router.
- Confirm it is connected to the correct Ethernet port on the router, not the Internet port used for the modem.
- Use Network reset only if the earlier steps do not help.
- Open Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset.
- Select Reset now.
- Warning: this removes and reinstalls network adapters and resets network settings to default. VPN software or virtual network components may need to be set up again.
- If the issue started after a recent update, reinstall the network adapter driver.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the Ethernet adapter and select Uninstall device.
- Restart the PC so Windows reinstalls the driver.
- Warning: download a backup driver from the PC manufacturer first if possible.
