Is there a supported API or automation to run 'Export as Excel' for Planner premium plans, including custom field values?

I am using Planner premium license and created few custom fields. I wanted to get custom fields using API but Dataverse API suggested that we can not read custom fields as it is saved as Blob.

I have explored other option regarding Export to Excel but it requires manual export. So, any API support Export as Excel option?

    Hi @Samir KHIMANI,

Based on the currently documented capabilities, there is no supported public API or Power Automate action that can invoke Planner Premium's built-in Export as Excel functionality.

The Microsoft Graph Planner API v1.0 does not support Planner Premium (formerly Project for the web) plans or tasks. Standard Premium plan data can be queried from Microsoft Dataverse, but custom fields created directly in Planner Premium are not exposed as regular columns in msdyn_projecttask. Microsoft currently does not document a supported API or schema that can retrieve those custom field values and reproduce the complete Excel export.

For the time being, the available options are:

    • Use the manual Export as Excel when Planner custom fields must be included.
    • Use Dataverse and Power Automate to create an automated export containing supported standard fields.
    • For long-term automation, store additional reporting values separately in Dataverse custom columns or a Microsoft List.

You may also consider opening a Microsoft support request to confirm whether any newer supported options are available for your specific environment.

Additionally, I would strongly recommend avoiding the use of undocumented project.microsoft.com/pss endpoints in production. Although some community discussions reference these endpoints, Microsoft does not officially document or support them, and they may change or be removed without notice, which could break automation unexpectedly.

I hope this helps clarify the current limitations and available options a bit more. If you have any updates, please feel free to leave a comment, and I'd be happy to discuss it further.

Thank you so much for taking the time.
