    Hi John,

Thank you for sharing the details of your concern.

PowerPoint for Mac does not have the same File > Info option available in the Windows version. Since the file permissions already show Read & Write, I recommend trying the following steps:

    1. If there are no unsaved changes, close the presentation and locate the file in Finder.
    2. Control-click or right-click the file, then select Get Info.
    3. Under General, make sure the Locked option is not selected.
    4. Copy the file to a local folder, such as your Desktop or Documents folder, rename the copy, and then try opening and saving it again.
    5. Create a new blank presentation and check whether you can save it to your Desktop. This will help determine whether the issue affects only the original file or PowerPoint in general.
    6. Make sure macOS is up to date by going to Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update.
    7. In PowerPoint, go to Help > Check for Updates and install any available updates.
    8. Confirm that Office is activated and that you are signed in with the Microsoft account associated with your Microsoft 365 license.

For reference: Update Microsoft 365 or Office on your macOS or iOS device

If the issue continues, could you please let me know:

    • Where the file is currently stored, such as OneDrive, SharePoint, a network drive, an external drive, or a local folder?
    • Whether you can create and save a new blank presentation.
    • Which versions of macOS and PowerPoint you are currently using.
    • The exact error message that appears when you try to save the file. If possible, also provide a screenshot of the error after removing any personal or sensitive information.

If the presentation contains unsaved changes, please avoid closing it for now. You may try copying the slides into a new blank presentation and saving the new file.

I hope this information is helpful. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.

If PowerPoint for Mac cannot Save or Save As even though Finder permissions show Read & Write, the most relevant causes in this scenario are:

    1. The file is locked because it was opened from a shared location
      • If another user already has the file open in the desktop app, PowerPoint can show the last saved version but block editing and saving.
      • Immediate workaround: use File > Save As to create a new copy, then reconcile changes later.
    2. Office is in reduced functionality mode
      • On macOS, Office apps can open and print files but not edit, save, or create new files when they enter reduced functionality mode.
      • Update Microsoft 365 or Office on the Mac and then test saving again.
    3. A save process problem in Office for Mac
      • A known Office for Mac issue can cause save failures, copy/paste failures, or AutoRecover failures because Office creates a temporary file during save.
      • Recommended action: install the latest Office updates.
      • Steps:
        1. Open any Office app.
        2. On the Help menu, select Check for Updates.
        3. Set updates to Automatically if preferred.
        4. Select Check for Updates.
    4. The presentation has restricted permissions (IRM)
      • A rights-managed presentation can prevent saving depending on the permission level.
      • In Office for Mac, the available permission levels are:
        • Read
        • Change = read, edit, copy, save changes
        • Full Control = read, edit, copy, save changes, print, set expiration dates, grant permissions, programmatic access
      • To verify this, open the presentation and check the Message Bar for View Permission or This presentation contains a permissions policy. If only Read access is granted, saving changes is blocked.
    5. License/activation issue
      • If the app was recently installed, renewed, or changed accounts, refresh the Office license:
        1. Open an Office app.
        2. In the menu bar, select the app name, then About the app.
        3. Select More Info…
        4. Select Refresh License.
        5. Close all Office apps and reopen them.

    Recommended order:

    1. Try saving a brand-new presentation locally.
    2. Run Help > Check for Updates and install all Office updates.
    3. Refresh the Office license.
    4. If the problem happens only with one file, check whether the file is shared/locked or protected with IRM.
    5. If Save As is available for a shared file, save a copy under a new name.

If the app still cannot save after updating, that matches the documented Office for Mac save-error scenario where Microsoft recommends updating first and then contacting support if the issue continues.
