A family of Microsoft products that enable users to capture, organize, and reuse notes electronically.
Since the notebooks open in OneDrive in the browser and in the OneNote app, the notebook data is reachable. The next checks are the local sync connection and sync status in OneNote for Windows.
- Install any available Office updates first.
- In OneNote, make sure automatic sync is enabled:
- File > Options > Sync
- Turn on Sync notebooks automatically.
- Try a manual sync:
- File > Info > View Sync Status
- Select Sync All or Sync Now for each notebook.
- In the Shared Notebook Synchronization window, check whether an error code appears for any notebook. If a Get Help button appears next to the error, open it and follow that article.
- Since the notebooks are accessible in the browser, close and reopen an affected notebook to reset the sync connection.
- Warning: before closing a notebook that is not fully synced, copy and back up any recent unsynced notes first.
- File > Info
- Right-click the notebook URL under the notebook name and select Copy
- Next to the notebook name, select Settings > Close
- Paste the copied URL into a browser and open the notebook in OneNote for the web
- Select Open in Desktop App to reopen it in OneNote
- If all notebooks still fail to sync, verify general connectivity and check whether OneDrive has a service issue.
- Avoid signing out of OneNote or reinstalling the app as an initial step, because that can cause data loss.
If OneNote shows authentication error 0xE0000024, select the sync error message to refresh the session and sign in with the same account associated with the notebooks.
