I got an error when sign in https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/

429 - Woah, that's a lot of requests

You might be blocked due to the number of requests exceeding our rate threshold. Please try again later.

I try to use other device, change network, wait 1 - 2 day but it doesn''t work

Please help me, many thanks

    Hi @fsiovn ,

It looks like you’re running into a 429 “Woah, that’s a lot of requests” error when signing in to the Visual Studio Marketplace. This means the service has temporarily throttled or blocked your traffic because it thinks you’ve exceeded its rate limits.

Here are a few things you can try and some questions to help us dig deeper:

    Wait it out

    • Throttles typically last a few minutes to a couple of hours. You mentioned waiting up to 2 days, but sometimes transient blocks can reset faster give it another shot in an empty browser/incognito window.

    Clear browser state

    • Fully clear cookies, cache, or use a private/incognito session.

    Double-check for automated calls

    • If you’re using a script, extension or any automation that hits the Marketplace sign-in endpoint repeatedly, that will trigger a throttle.

Next steps if it keeps happening

    Gather diagnostic info

    • Note the exact time (with timezone), the region you’re signing in from, and any correlation/request ID shown in the browser’s dev tools (F12 Network tab).

    Open a support ticket

    • With that info in hand, file a Visual Studio Marketplace support request so the engineering team can investigate and potentially whitelist your IP or account.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello fsiovn

Greetings! Thanks for raising this question in Q&A forum.

I can understand how frustrating this is, especially when you've already tried changing devices and networks and waited 1–2 days with no luck. The 429 - Woah, that's a lot of requests error on the Visual Studio Marketplace means that your account or IP address has been temporarily rate-limited by Microsoft's servers. This can happen when too many sign-in attempts or page requests are made in a short period of time sometimes even triggered unintentionally by browser extensions, cached redirect loops, or automated tools. Since the block has persisted beyond a couple of days even across devices and networks, it's likely tied to your Microsoft account rather than just your IP address.

Here's what you can try step by step:

Step 1: Clear Browser Cache and Cookies Completely

Even if you switched devices, try on a completely fresh browser profile or an incognito/private window. Sometimes cached authentication tokens or cookies carry the old session state and keep triggering the rate limit. Clear all cookies and site data for visualstudio.com and microsoft.com before signing in again.

Step 2: Try Signing In Without Extensions

Browser extensions (especially ad blockers, VPNs built into browsers, or developer tools) can sometimes fire repeated background requests. Disable all extensions and try signing into https://marketplace.visualstudio.com again in a clean browser window.

Step 3: Check Your Microsoft Account Sign-in Health

Go to https://account.microsoft.com and sign in. If that works fine, the issue is specifically with the Marketplace service for your account. This helps narrow down whether it's an account-level block or a Marketplace-specific block.

Step 4: Check the Visual Studio Marketplace Service Status

Visit https://status.dev.azure.com to check if there are any known incidents or degraded services affecting the Visual Studio Marketplace right now. If there's an active incident, the best course is to wait for Microsoft to resolve it.

Step 5: Try Accessing via Visual Studio or VS Code Directly

If you need to install extensions urgently, you can bypass the Marketplace website altogether. Open Visual Studio Code, go to the Extensions panel (Ctrl+Shift+X), and search for the extension you need directly from within the IDE. This uses a different endpoint and may not be affected by the web-based rate limit.

Step 6: Contact Microsoft Developer Community Support

Since the block has persisted beyond 48 hours and switching devices and networks didn't help, this needs to be escalated to Microsoft. Please raise a support request through the Visual Studio Developer Community at https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com or open an Azure support ticket at https://aka.ms/azuresupport selecting Azure DevOps / Visual Studio Marketplace as the service. Include your Microsoft account email (or the alias, not the password), the exact error message, and the steps you've already tried. The support team can check if your account has been flagged and manually lift the rate limit block.

If this answer helps you kindly accept the answer which will help others who have similar questions.

    Best Regards,

    Jerald Felix.
