Hi Kelly Howe
I think that the machine isn’t properly storing the key in the TPM (Trusted Platform Module), so it keeps asking for it. A common cause is that Secure Boot or TPM got disabled in BIOS, or the boot sequence changed, which makes BitLocker think something’s fishy. The good news is you don’t need to turn BitLocker off to fix this, and you definitely don’t want to if you care about keeping your wife’s work data safe.
First, go into the BIOS/UEFI settings and make sure TPM is enabled and Secure Boot is turned on. Then, from Windows, run manage-bde -protectors -enable C: in an elevated command prompt to re‑enable the TPM protector. If that doesn’t stick, you can suspend BitLocker temporarily, reboot, and then resume it that often clears the repeated prompt issue. Another option is to back up the recovery key again and then remove/re‑add the TPM protector through the BitLocker control panel.
Once TPM is back in play, the system should stop nagging you for the recovery key at every boot. If this explanation helps you get things sorted, please hit “accept answer” so we know it solved your issue. If not, is there anything I can help you with? Please let me know. Thank
