Azure Data Box is available only for specific subscription types, not specifically restricted by whether the Azure account is new or existing.

To use Azure Data Box with a new Azure account in India to transfer 70 TB from Chennai:

    1. Ensure the subscription type is supported: Data Box is only available for Enterprise Agreement (EA) and Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) subscription offers. Other subscription types (such as standard pay-as-you-go) cannot create Data Box orders.
    2. Ensure the user has sufficient access: the account creating the order must have at least Contributor or Owner access on the subscription.
    3. Check regional availability: Data Box is supported for all regions within India. Use the region availability information to confirm that the Azure destination region you choose (for example, an India region closest to Chennai) supports Data Box.
    4. Choose the appropriate device: for 70 TB of data, use Data Box (80 TB maximum usable capacity per device) or Data Box 120 (120 TB maximum usable capacity) depending on what is available in the portal for the chosen region. One device is sufficient for 70 TB.
    5. Order via Azure portal: create an Azure Data Box resource, select transfer type Import, set Source country to India and choose an Azure destination region in India, then complete shipping details for the Chennai location.

If the subscription is not EA or CSP, or Data Box is not available for the selected region, the portal will block order creation.

    Hi Madhavaraja s,

Thanks for reaching out in Microsoft Q&A forum,

Yes, Azure Data Box is supported for Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA) subscriptions, not only for EA or CSP, provided the subscription is eligible in the portal.

For your case, a new Azure account in India should be able to use Data Box if the account, tenant, and target region meet the order requirements. Since you want to transfer about 70 TB from Chennai, Data Box is a good fit because it is meant for large offline transfers when uploading over the network would be too slow or impractical.

    • Transfer size: 70 TB is well within the type of workload Data Box is designed for.
    • Subscription type: MCA is supported, subject to portal eligibility.
    • Region: India South or India Central should be the main region consideration, not Chennai itself.
    • Practical use: Place the order through the Azure portal and use the shipping address in Chennai for delivery and return logistics.
