Microsoft Q&A cannot view request status, so contact Microsoft Support from a working account or alternate contact channel, quote the request number privately, and ask that all updates be sent to a different email address or by phone.
Request a status update without relying on the affected inbox
- Open Microsoft Support.
- Select Personal account → Get help.
- Enter: “Status update for an existing Outlook.com support request.”
- If self-help appears, continue until offered chat or another contact option.
- Give the representative the request number and ask them to:
- Confirm whether the request is still open and assigned.
- Record an alternate working email address and telephone number.
- Read any pending request for information to you during the chat.
- Send a follow-up to the alternate address.
- Escalate the existing request rather than create a duplicate.
Available support options depend on the product and whether the account is personal or business; Outlook.com is handled through the personal-account support route.^1^
Do not publish the request number, email address, or other account details in this public forum. Community participants cannot access Microsoft’s case-management system or provide an update on an active request.^2^
Because case notifications will not arrive until mail delivery works—or Support records another contact method—check these items in Outlook.com:
- Check Microsoft cloud and mailbox storage. If cloud storage is full, Outlook.com cannot receive email; messages sent while it was full are bounced and cannot be recovered.
- Open Junk Email, Other, Deleted Items, and Archive.
- Above the message list, choose Filter → All, then Filter → Sort → Date.
- On a computer, open Settings → Mail → Rules and disable any rule or Sweep rule moving or deleting messages.
- Check whether forwarding is enabled.
- Ask someone to send a new test message and provide the complete non-delivery report if it fails.
These are Microsoft’s documented checks for Outlook.com delivery failures.^3^ Missing messages may also be recoverable from Deleted Items → Recover items deleted from this folder for up to 30 days, using a computer.^4^
If those checks do not restore delivery, in Outlook.com select Help, describe the receiving problem, scroll to Still need help?, and select Yes. When contacting Support, keep the mailbox failure and the existing request-status inquiry linked by referencing the same request number.
