Both options create scheduled tasks, but they differ in the level of configuration available during creation.

Create Basic Task launches a simplified wizard that guides you through four main steps:

    • Name and description: Identify the task.
    • Trigger: Specify when it runs, such as daily, weekly, at logon, at startup, or when a specific event occurs.
    • Action: Select whether to start a program, send an email, or display a message.
    • Finish: Review and create the task.

Create Task opens the full task configuration dialog, with five tabs:

    • General: Configure the security context, user account, privileges (including Run with highest privileges), and compatibility settings.
    • Triggers: Configure one or more triggers, including advanced scheduling options, delays, repetition, expiration, and event-based conditions.
    • Actions: Define one or more actions.
    • Conditions: Configure execution conditions, such as idle state, power availability, and network availability.
    • Settings: Configure task behavior, including retries, execution time limits, parallel execution, and whether a task can be run on demand.

So, effectively, Create Basic Task is a simplified wizard for straightforward scheduling. Create Task provides full control over task configuration, including security context, multiple triggers and actions, execution conditions, and advanced behavior. For administrative scripts and scheduled PowerShell tasks, consider using Create Task
