If the account is listed as a family member and there is no access to the organizer account, there is no self-service way to force removal from the family group.
Supported actions are:
- Check whether Leave family group is available:
- Sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/family or https://family.microsoft.com.
- Select the menu next to the account name.
- If Leave family group appears, select it and confirm Remove.
- If Leave family group does not appear, the account cannot remove itself.
- Only an organizer can remove members.
- If the account is treated as a child account, the adult who granted consent must first select Remove consent for this child’s account, then Remove from family group.
- If family restrictions still appear on a device even when the account is not part of a family group, run the Family Safety refresh task on each affected Windows device:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
cmdand select OK. - Run:
schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask" - Restart the computer.
- For investigation or account-specific help, use Microsoft Support:
- Go to Contact Microsoft Support.
- Enter the problem and select Get Help.
- If needed, select Contact Support.
Important:
- Leaving or being removed from a family group does not delete the Microsoft account.
- Leaving or removal causes loss of access to shared family products and services such as Microsoft 365 Family.
- Family groups without an organizer and at least one other family member will be deleted.
