No longer receiving notifications for post edits in Teams channel

We communicate staffing needs via one post in our teams channel that is updated every morning. A new post is not created, only edited. In the past everyone has received phone notifications once the post was edited. Lately our team members are not receiving notifications. I tried messing around with settings and haven't found a fix. I tried "following the thread" but then I get a notification banner with the last comment in the thread, rather than the post itself, when it is edited. We like having the post preview in notification banners because it often gives us the staffing info we need without even opening the app. I'm starting to wonder if Teams no longer supports notifications for post edits? Or if there is some setting I am missing. I don't know if this is affecting the desktop Teams, this is only about the mobile app.

Microsoft’s current documentation does not list editing an existing channel post as a mobile notification trigger or provide a setting that guarantees a push preview of edited text, so the dependable workaround is to publish each morning’s staffing summary as a new channel post.

    1. Create a new post each morning containing the staffing summary instead of editing yesterday’s post.
    2. For each team member, open the channel’s More options (…) → Manage notifications/Channel notifications.
    3. Enable notifications for all new posts/messages and select Activity feed and banner. Teams documents these controls for new posts or messages, depending on the channel layout.^1^
    4. Enable Show message and content previews in notifications under Settings → Notifications and activity where that option is available. This controls whether a notification includes message content, but it does not create a notification for an edit that otherwise has no documented trigger.^2^

If preserving one long-running post is essential, add a new reply containing the complete staffing summary each morning. Replies to conversations users participate in—and replies in followed threads—are documented notification triggers, although the banner will normally represent the new reply rather than refresh the original post.^3^

Following the thread therefore does not provide the specific edited-original preview you want. It is designed to surface new thread activity, and Microsoft states that Followed threads/Quick views do not themselves change which notifications are sent.^1^

    Determine whether this is edit-specific

Because edit notifications previously appeared, the change could be undocumented former behavior, a client change, or a regression; the public documentation does not establish which.

    Run one controlled comparison:

    • Edit an existing post.
    • Create a new post.
    • Add a reply.
    • Add an @mention.

Test with several affected accounts and record the phone platform, Teams version, and timestamp. If new posts, replies, and mentions produce mobile pushes but edits alone do not, ordinary phone notification permissions are unlikely to explain the symptom.

Have the Microsoft 365 administrator open a Microsoft support case and provide those results, especially if the behavior changed tenant-wide. Microsoft Q&A guidance recommends support escalation when mobile events are received but Teams still fails to display notifications.^4^

    Conditional check for managed phones

This applies only if Teams is governed by an Intune app-protection policy and other channel notifications or their previews are also missing.

    The administrator should inspect:

    • Intune admin center → Apps → Protection → applicable policy → Data protection → Org data notifications
      • Allow displays title and content.
      • Block org data hides the real content.
      • Blocked suppresses notifications.
    • The managed-app configuration key
      com.microsoft.teams.channel.notifications.IntuneMAMOnly
      • 1 enables channel notifications.
      • 0 disables them.^5^

An Intune change can restore generally blocked channel notifications or previews, but it does not establish edited posts as a notification trigger.

    Hi @AC

I tested this behavior on my side and noticed that I also did not receive a notification when an existing channel post was edited. I received notifications for new activity, but editing the original post did not generate a separate notification.

The Catch up on channel messages in Microsoft Teams article explains that notifications are generated for activities such as @mentions, replies to conversations you are part of, and replies to threads you follow. However, it does not list edits to existing channel posts as an activity that generates a notification

As a workaround, you could try creating a new staffing post each morning or add the updated staffing information as a new reply. This creates new activity and is more likely to generate a notification for your team members. If appropriate, you could also use an @mention to draw their attention to an important update.

I hope this helps clarify the situation. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reply.
