Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Review both monthly charges in Microsoft account order history, identify which account or seller owns each subscription, then cancel only the unwanted subscription and request reimbursement from the seller that collected the payment.
1. Match both charges to their subscriptions
- Open your Microsoft account order history and sign in.
- Select Payment & billing > Order history.
- Set the date range from August through today.
- Compare the entries dated around the 5th and 10th, including the amount, product, order number, and status. Posted charges normally appear as Completed or Redeemed.^1^
- Repeat this check for every personal Microsoft account you or a family member might use.
If your bank shows two payments but one Microsoft account shows only one, open Payment options in the Microsoft account dashboard and select Investigate. Microsoft notes that another account or family member may be using the same card.^2^
Also compare the total number of successful payments since August. A previously declined payment can be retried close to the next regular payment, making two legitimate billing periods appear close together.^2^
2. Stop only the unwanted subscription
After identifying two active subscriptions:
- Go to Services & subscriptions using the account that owns the unwanted subscription.
- Select Manage beside that subscription.
- Select Cancel or Upgrade or Cancel, then complete the prompts.
- If the page instead displays Turn on recurring billing, that subscription is already scheduled to expire and should not renew.[^3^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription | Microsoft Support")
Do not cancel the subscription you intend to keep. Cancellation can reduce Microsoft 365 and OneDrive storage allowances when the subscription ends.
3. Request the refund from the correct seller
- Purchased directly from Microsoft: The cancellation process automatically indicates whether that subscription qualifies for a refund. Not every cancellation produces one.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft subscription refund policy | Microsoft Support")
- One charge is absent from all Microsoft accounts: Use Payment options > Investigate, then contact Microsoft Support from the duplicate-charge page by selecting Get Help > Contact Support. Have the dates, amounts, payment method, and order numbers ready.^2^
- Purchased through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Best Buy, or another retailer: Contact that retailer for cancellation and refund. Microsoft cannot refund or manage recurring billing for payments collected by a third-party seller.[^5^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Manage your Microsoft 365 subscription purchased through a third party | Microsoft Support")
- Neither charge is recognized: Contact the bank or card issuer to secure the payment method, not merely dispute individual charges.^6^
Do not post order numbers, card details, email addresses, or bank statements in this public forum.
