A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data
Dear @Helena Johnston ,Good day! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum!
Thank you for providing the Microsoft Learn discussion and for reporting this behavior.
To better understand the issue, I performed some testing and observed the following:
First, I copied and pasted an image within the same workbook, and the image retained its original size.
I then copied the row containing the image and pasted it into a different workbook. In this scenario, the image was automatically reduced in size after pasting.
I repeated the test and selected Keep Source Column Widths from the Paste Options menu immediately after pasting into the different workbook. The image then displayed at the same size as the original image.
Based on these results, the behavior appears to be related to differences between the source and destination workbook formatting, such as column widths, row heights, worksheet scaling, or other workbook-level settings, rather than the image itself being altered during the copy process.
To help us understand your environment, could you please confirm:
- Which version and build of Excel are you using?
- Does this occur with all workbooks or only specific ones?
- Does the same behavior occur when inserting the image using Insert > Pictures instead of copy/paste?
- Are there any differences in zoom level, row heights, column widths, or display scaling between the source and destination workbooks?
As a potential workaround, please try selecting Keep Source Column Widths when pasting between workbooks and let me know whether this consistently preserves the image size in your environment.
Any updates you’re able to share would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time and attention! I look forward to hearing from you.
