Unauthorized Charge After Subscription Cancellation

I previously had an annual subscription, which I paid for regularly. However, once the subscription period expired, I decided not to renew it and cancelled my plan, ensuring that it would no longer be active.

Despite this, an amount was charged to my account for what appears to be a continued subscription, even though I am no longer using your services.

Log into any Microsoft account you may have on this link and check if you can find a subscription that is still active, if so, cancel the subscription and ensure you disable the recurring billing on the subscription.

A charge after cancellation usually happens for one of these reasons:

    1. The cancellation was made too close to the billing date. Cancellations must be more than 2 days before the billing date.
    2. The charge is tied to a different Microsoft account than the one used to check the subscription.
    3. Recurring billing was still enabled.
    4. The subscription was bought through a third party such as Apple, Google, or a retailer, in which case billing must be managed with that provider directly.

Steps to verify and stop future charges:

    1. Go to Services & subscriptions.
    2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that was used to buy the subscription.
    3. Find the subscription and check:
      • whether Manage, Cancel, or Change payment appears
      • the subscription end date
      • whether recurring billing is off
    4. If Turn on recurring billing appears, automatic renewal is already off.
    5. If the subscription does not show normal Microsoft management options, it may be billed by a third party and must be canceled with that provider.

    To investigate the charge:

    1. Open Manage your payments.
    2. Select Investigate for the charge if it is not recognized.
    3. Also review Order history to confirm whether the charge was an initial purchase or a renewal.

    Important billing behavior:

    • Turning off recurring billing does not stop the subscription immediately. Access continues until the expiry date shown in the account.
    • A charge can still appear if cancellation happened after the next billing cycle had already started.

If the subscription was purchased from Microsoft, it is managed through the Microsoft account subscriptions page. If it was purchased through a third party, Microsoft cannot cancel, refund, or modify billing for that subscription.
