Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Recover access to the Microsoft account that owns the unwanted Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, then turn off recurring billing so it will not be charged on December 1, 2026.
1. Recover the account
Microsoft 365 Personal is managed through the Microsoft personal account used to purchase it, which may differ from the company email account used for work.
- Open Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper and enter the email address or mobile number believed to own the subscription. The tool identifies account and sign-in problems and provides the appropriate recovery steps ^1^.
- If the username is recognized, request a security code and reset the password. Check whether another email alias or telephone number may have been registered with the account ^2^.
- After signing in, verify that the unwanted Microsoft 365 Personal subscription appears under Services & subscriptions. Only the account that owns that subscription can manage it.
2. Stop the December 2026 renewal
- In Services & subscriptions, locate the unwanted Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.
- Select Manage.
- Select Turn off recurring billing.
- Review the information, scroll down, and select I don’t want my subscription.
- Confirm that the page now displays an expiry date rather than an upcoming renewal charge.
Turning off recurring billing prevents future charges while allowing the subscription to remain usable until its displayed expiry date [^3^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Turn recurring billing on or off for a Microsoft subscription | Microsoft Support").
If the page already shows Turn on recurring billing, renewal is already disabled; no further payment should be taken, and the subscription will expire on the displayed date [^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Unable to cancel your Microsoft subscription | Microsoft Support").
If account recovery does not work
- Use Microsoft’s account support page and select the sign-in helper or the option to contact a support agent. Account ownership verification will be required before billing information can be changed ^5^.
- If the subscription was purchased from Apple, Google, Amazon, a retailer, or another billing partner, cancellation must be completed through that provider rather than Microsoft [^6^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Where can I manage my Microsoft 365 subscription? | Microsoft Support").
- Do not post the subscription reference, email address, company registration number, payment-card details, or other account identifiers in this public forum. Microsoft Q&A participants cannot access or cancel subscriptions.
