How to change my profile picture ?

2026-11-02T08:25:00.81+00:00

Hello,

I’m having trouble updating my profile picture. When I upload a new image, it doesn’t appear correctly or doesn’t change at all.

Could you please advise me on the correct steps or any image requirements I should follow?

Thank you,

Profile picture update can take up to 24 hours to reflect across the apps after successful upload.

Hello @MEERA KHALID DAOUD MOHAMED ALMAAZMI ,

Thanks for reaching out. If you're using a Microsoft 365 business account, you can update your profile picture through the Microsoft 365 My Account portal.

    Please follow these steps:

    1. Open your profile settings
      1. Go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/personal-info.
      2. Sign in with your Microsoft 365 work account.
      3. Locate your profile picture and select the pencil (Edit) icon.
    2. Upload your new picture
      1. Select the option to upload a new picture.
      2. Choose the image from your computer.
      3. Adjust the picture if necessary.
      4. Select Save.
    3. Check the image requirements
      1. For best results:
        1. Use a JPG or PNG image.
        2. Keep the file size within 4 MB.
        3. Use a clear, square image to avoid unwanted cropping.

    User's image

If the picture still doesn't change

Try signing out and signing back into your Microsoft 365 account, then check your profile again.

If you cannot see the Edit option or the upload is unsuccessful, your organization's Microsoft 365 administrator may have restricted profile-picture changes. The administrator will need to check the relevant organization settings.

Please also allow some time for the updated picture to appear across Microsoft 365 services such as Teams and Outlook.

For more information, see Microsoft's official guide:

Add or update your work or school profile picture.

    I hope this helps!

    Kind regards,

In Teams for business, select your picture twice, upload an image no larger than 4 MB, save it, and then sign out and back in if the old picture remains cached.

    Change the picture

    Teams desktop or web

    1. Select your profile picture in the upper-right corner.
    2. In the account panel, select the picture again.
    3. Select Upload and choose the new image.
    4. Adjust the image if prompted, then select Save. ^1^

    Teams mobile

    • iOS: Picture or initials → your name → Update photo.
    • Android: More → your picture → Edit image. ^1^

Use an image of 4 MB or less, which is the maximum supported profile-photo size. The available Microsoft documentation does not specify a required pixel dimension for a personal Teams profile photo. ^2^

If the upload succeeds but the old picture remains

Teams caches profile information: the Teams service can cache general user information for up to three days, while a client may cache profile photos for up to 60 days. ^3^

    1. Sign out of Teams.
    2. Close and reopen Teams.
    3. Sign back in and check the picture in both Teams web and the desktop application.

If the web version shows the new picture but the desktop app does not, clear the desktop client cache as a targeted next step:

    • New Teams on Windows: Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Microsoft Teams → Advanced options → Reset → restart Teams.
    • Resetting deletes local Teams app data, including personalization settings.
    • Microsoft also documents separate cache-removal procedures for classic Teams and macOS. ^4^

If Upload is unavailable or the change is rejected

Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to check whether the Outlook on the web mailbox policy has SetPhotoEnabled disabled. For Exchange Online users, that setting prevents users from adding, changing, or removing their profile pictures. ^5^

An administrator can also update the photo directly:

    1. Open Microsoft 365 admin center.
    2. Go to Users → Active users.
    3. Select your account.
    4. Under the current picture, select Change photo.
    5. Select Choose photo → choose the file → Save changes.

This administrator procedure requires an appropriately privileged administrator; the documented admin-center procedure specifies Global Administrator. ^2^
