Hi. Although available last night, my Copilot chat history has now disappeared. I use the desktop app and have not logged out of my account. I did receive a synching message this morning, but nothing has returned. I did also receive a message in the interface that said that my chats were now available, but they are still not visible.

    Hi Andy Coffey,

I understand how concerning this is, especially since Copilot first displayed a synchronization message and later indicated that your chats were available, but the conversation list is still empty.

To help narrow this down, could you please confirm whether you are using a personal Microsoft account or a work or school account? Also, when you sign in to Copilot on the web with the same account and expand the left sidebar, are the previous conversations missing there as well?

If possible, please create a short test conversation, close and reopen Copilot, and check whether the new conversation remains visible. This can help determine whether the issue affects only the previous history or whether new conversations are also not being saved or displayed.

If the history is missing from both the desktop app and the web version after confirming the correct account, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support and providing a screenshot of the synchronization message, the approximate time the history disappeared, and the platforms affected. Please share account information only with Support through a private channel.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Community contributors cannot access your account, check the back-end synchronization status, or restore missing conversations directly.

You can also refer to Microsoft’s guidance here: Troubleshoot your content in the updated Copilot app. Thank you so much for your understanding.

This usually means the chats are still being moved or synced in the updated Copilot experience.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Confirm the account is the same one used before If multiple accounts are available, use the account switcher and verify the correct personal account is selected. Personal accounts and work or school accounts stay separate.
    2. Restart the Copilot app Fully quit the desktop app, then reopen it. If using Copilot on the web as well, refresh the page there.
    3. Check for the in-app link to older chats When chats are still moving, the app can show a link that gives access to previous chats and content temporarily.
    4. Allow more time for the sync/move to finish Microsoft states that moving chats and content can take some time, and the duration depends on the amount and type of content being moved.
    5. If different devices show different chat lists, compare the signed-in account on each device Then restart Copilot on each device and check again later.

Additional points relevant to this symptom:

    • A “coming soon” or similar sync message can appear when the account has moved to the updated Copilot app but chats and content are still on the way.
    • If only some chats are missing, some retired features do not carry forward the same way. Also, Projects are now shown as Notebooks in the updated app.
    • If signed in, Copilot normally keeps conversation history for the last 18 months.

If the chats return anywhere, avoid deleting history while sync is still in progress.
