I've used this marketplace image in the past, but I can't find it in the markeplace now. All documentation that I've read says it is still there, but no matter how I search I do not find it.

The Windows 2019 DSVM still has a public Marketplace listing, but because the current portal quickstart directs users to Windows 2022, open the listing directly or use its documented image identifiers instead of relying on portal search. ^1^

Verify availability in your target region

    The documented identifiers are:

    • Publisher: microsoft-dsvm
    • Offer: dsvm-win-2019
    • SKU: winserver-2019

Microsoft changed the SKU from server-2019 to winserver-2019 in March 2022. ^2^

Run this in Azure Cloud Shell or a terminal with Azure CLI:

    az vm image list \
      --location eastus \
      --publisher microsoft-dsvm \
      --offer dsvm-win-2019 \
      --sku winserver-2019 \
      --all \
      --output table

Replace eastus with the region where the VM will be deployed. Azure Marketplace image availability is queried by location; the returned URN can be supplied to az vm create, and latest can replace a specific version. ^3^

If versions are returned, inspect the latest image directly:

    az vm image show \
      --location eastus \
      --urn microsoft-dsvm:dsvm-win-2019:winserver-2019:latest \
      --output json

    The effective deployment URN is:

    microsoft-dsvm:dsvm-win-2019:winserver-2019:latest

    Interpret the result

    • Versions are returned: The image is available in that region even if Azure portal search does not expose the tile. Use the direct Marketplace listing or deploy with the returned URN.
    • No versions are returned: Query another intended Azure region. An image must be available in the deployment region before a VM can be created there.
    • A deprecation status is returned: After deprecation enforcement, Azure blocks new VM creation from the affected version, SKU, or offer, although existing VMs continue running. ^4^

The Windows 2019 edition remains listed as a DSVM platform in the product overview, and the release notes show Windows 2019 builds through May 2025. ^5^ However, the current Windows provisioning quickstart specifically sends portal users to Data Science Virtual Machine – Windows 2022, so portal search behavior should not be treated as proof that the Windows 2019 image has been removed. ^6^

If the correct identifiers return no images in every acceptable region, use Windows 2022 for a new deployment or open an Azure support request to confirm whether the Windows 2019 offer is restricted for the subscription or market.
