OneNote deleting new entries

I've had a Section for years in OneNote. I add notes the existing Section and then close OneNote. When I reopen OneNote the new entries in the Section are there but suddenly disappear. Any suggestions?

This behavior is commonly consistent with sync problems, a failed save being overwritten, or the section becoming damaged.

    Try this in order:

    1. Search for the missing content across all notebooks
      • In OneNote, press Ctrl+E.
      • Set search to All notebooks.
      • Search for a unique word from one of the entries that disappears.
      • If the note appears in search results, it may have been moved or saved somewhere unexpected.
    2. Check whether the notebook or section was reopened correctly
      • Go to File > Open.
      • Under Recent Notebooks, reopen the notebook if needed.
      • Also check whether the notes landed in Quick Notes.
    3. Check the Notebook Recycle Bin
      • Open the notebook where the notes were expected.
      • Go to History > Notebook Recycle Bin > Notebook Recycle Bin.
      • If the missing pages are there, right-click the page tab and choose Move or Copy to restore them.
      • Deleted notes can remain there for up to 60 days.
    4. Restore from backups if the notes are not in the recycle bin
      • In OneNote desktop, go to File > Info > Open Backups.
      • Open the backup section or notebook.
      • If the missing content is present, right-click the section or page and use Copy or Move or Copy to place it back in the main notebook.
    5. Check in OneNote for the web
      • If the notebook is stored online, open it in OneNote for the web and then select Open in OneNote.
      • This can help confirm whether the content exists in the cloud copy but is not displaying correctly in the desktop app.
    6. If the section itself may be damaged
      • Create a new section.
      • If the pages still open anywhere else, copy or move them into the new section.

If the notes continue to appear briefly and then vanish, the strongest recovery paths are the Notebook Recycle Bin, backup restore, and checking the notebook in the web version.

If none of those recover the entries, the next step is to report it in the OneNote forum listed below.
