    Hello Martha Carrier,

Could you please clarify what happens when you try to access your email?

    • Are you unable to open Classic Outlook?
    • Are you unable to add or sign in to your email account?
    • Or can you open Outlook, but no messages appear in your Inbox?

Please also let me know the type of email address you are trying to use, such as Outlook.com, Hotmail, Gmail, or a work/school account, and whether you see any error message.

In the meantime, try signing in through Outlook on the web. If your messages appear there, your email account is working and the issue may be limited to the Classic Outlook app or its account configuration.

Please share the results and the exact error message, if any, so we can suggest the appropriate next steps. Thank you so much for your understanding.

    Try this in order:

    1. Check whether the account works in a browser first. For a Microsoft personal account such as @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com, Outlook.com is one way to access the mailbox.
    2. In classic Outlook, check whether it is in offline mode. If Working Offline appears at the bottom of the Outlook window, go to Send/Receive and select Work Offline to turn offline mode off.
    3. If Outlook is not offline, confirm the internet connection by opening a browser and checking whether websites load.
    4. If email still does not appear, verify the account settings in Windows:
      • Open Control Panel.
      • Open Mail.
      • Select Email Accounts.
      • Select the account, then choose Change.
      • Verify the Incoming mail server, Outgoing mail server, User Name, and Password.
      • Select More Settings > Advanced.
      • Compare the IMAP and SMTP port numbers and encryption settings with those required by the email provider.
      • Select OK, then Test Account Settings.
      • If the test shows red markers, the settings are incorrect and need to be corrected. If it shows green check marks, the account is configured successfully.
    5. If the password was changed recently, change it first with the email provider, then update the stored password in Outlook.

For Microsoft personal email accounts using IMAP, the incoming server settings are:

    • Server: imap-mail.outlook.com
    • Port: 993
    • Encryption: SSL

If the issue is only that a new Outlook.com account cannot send mail yet, make sure the verification email was received and completed.

If the problem is not covered by these steps, use the Outlook community support option.
