    Hi @Jigeesha Anagani,

If you accidentally uninstalled Microsoft Authenticator and can no longer receive verification codes for your work account, the recovery steps depend on whether you are an end user or an administrator.

1/If you are an end user:

Please contact your Microsoft 365/IT administrator and ask them to to revoke your existing MFA sessions and require re-registration by following the guidance: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication

    User's image

This process only takes a few minutes. It will remove your existing MFA registration and sign-in sessions. The next time you sign in, you will be prompted to register a new MFA method and set up Microsoft Authenticator again on your device.

    2/If you are an administrator

If there are other administrators in your organization, please ask one of them to reset your MFA registration using the same guidance above.

If you are the only administrator in the tenant, you will need to contact Microsoft Support directly by phone: Contact Microsoft customer support

In this situation, the Microsoft Data Protection team has tools and processes in place to verify identity and regain access to administrator accounts.

Here are some tips and an example of a prompt to help you navigate the IVR more effectively:

(When you call the support number, you may hear an introduction of about 30 seconds such as "you can visit the link...". You can ignore this introduction and wait until you are presented with the options. Then press "1" as a business email user, and again "1" for technical help.)

In some regions, the initial interaction may be automated, so here’s a general idea of how the conversation might go to help you prepare:

What kind of problem are you experiencing?

    Answer: Authenticator

    What products do you use?

    Answer: Office 365 for business

Is this for an education or company account?

    Answer: For companies

    Are you an administrator?

    Answer: Yes

Are there any other administrators in your organization?

Answer: No. I am the only admin in my tenant

Do you need a... Service request?

Answer: Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please send me direct to the Data Protection Teams.        During the phone call, you will need to provide the information you have received through your subscription, such as: Your company name, billing information, phone number, alternate email address, etc. Therefore, our privacy team can help you reset your multi-factor authentication, and after the reset, you can add your account back to your authenticator app on your phone and set it up from scratch or choose a different authentication method to log in to your account.

I hope this helps point you in the right direction and identify the most appropriate next steps for your situation.

Thank you so much for your time and patience.

If Microsoft Authenticator was uninstalled, the previous accounts can be restored only if backup was enabled before the uninstall.

For a work or school account:

    • After restore, only the account name is restored.
    • The account must be signed in again to complete setup.
    • If Authenticator shows Sign in to restore your account or Action required, open the account in Authenticator, tap the recovery/sign-in option, enter the password, and complete the extra verification with email address or phone number.

    Steps to restore:

    Android

    1. Open Authenticator.
    2. Select Restore from backup or Begin recovery before signing in.
    3. Sign in with the same personal Microsoft account that was used as the recovery account for the backup.
    4. If the work account appears, open it and complete sign-in again.

    iPhone/iPad

    1. Make sure iCloud Drive, iCloud Keychain, and iCloud Backup are enabled.
    2. Install Authenticator.
    3. Restore the backup.
    4. Sign in to each restored account to complete recovery.

If Restore from backup or Begin recovery does not appear on Android:

    1. Sign out of Authenticator by removing all accounts.
    2. If needed, clear app data from Settings > Apps > Authenticator > Storage or Storage & cache > Clear data.

Important: clearing app data or removing accounts has no undo and the device will no longer be able to verify sign-in until setup is completed again.

If backup was not enabled, or restore does not work:

    • The accounts must be added again.
    • For a work account that no longer produces codes or notifications, the account likely needs to be set up again after restore or re-added.

If the issue is specifically that no verification code is showing for the work account after moving to a new phone, the documented behavior is that work or school accounts require additional sign-in and setup after restore.
