Azure Bastion cost not showing in Cost Management, causing inaccurate cost tracking

Hello everyone,

I recently created an Azure Bastion (Basic Tier) in the South Central India region. Based on Azure pricing, the estimated cost is around ₹435 per day.

However, when I check Cost Management + Billing, the Bastion cost is not appearing. I have already checked all available filters, date ranges, subscriptions, resource groups, and services, but I still cannot see any charges related to Azure Bastion.

Because of this, my actual Azure usage cost appears lower than expected, which is creating confusion while tracking and estimating expenses.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue?

  • How long does it normally take for Azure Bastion costs to appear in Cost Management?
  • Is there a specific service name or meter under which Bastion costs are reported?
  • Are there any known delays or reporting issues for Bastion charges?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

    Hi Hitesh,

I forget exactly how long it took for charges to start showing up in Cost analysis last time I created a Bastion, however, in my experience charges will start showing up within 24 hours for most resources. I have seen it take longer, say 2-3 days max, but that is rare.

For Bastion Basic SKU the Service name = Azure Bastion and Meter = Basic Gateway and Meter = Basic Data Transfer Out

Below is screenshot from Cost analysis -- CostByResource view:

If it has been more than 2 days since you created the Bastion and still no charges are showing up in Cost analysis then I would consider that an issue. Again I would expect the charges to show in less than a day, but I would give it at least 2 days just in case there is some temporary glitch.

How long has it been since you created the Bastion? If it has been an extended amount of time you may create a Billing support request in the portal free of charge. That way a billing engineer can investigate.

Yes. Cost Management data is not real-time, so Azure Bastion charges can legitimately be missing for a while even after the resource is created.

    • For EA and MCA subscriptions, cost and usage data is typically available in 8–24 hours.
    • For pay-as-you-go subscriptions, it can take up to 72 hours.
    • During the open month, charges shown in Cost Management are estimated only and can appear with delay after usage occurs.
    • Estimated charges for the current billing period are updated six times per day.
    • Different Azure services emit usage at different intervals, so some services appear sooner than others.

A few important points for the scenario:

    1. A delay does not necessarily indicate a Bastion-specific problem
Cost Management updates depend on when the service emits usage data. If Bastion usage has not yet been processed, the cost will not appear immediately.
    2. Deleted or changed resources can still show in cost data later
Cost Management is based on usage records, not only on currently visible resources. That is why cost data can differ from what appears in Azure Resource Manager.
    3. Use Cost Analysis after the expected ingestion window
In the Azure portal, go to Cost Management + Billing > Cost Management > Cost analysis and review the invoiced or current-period charges again after the 8–24 hour or up to 72 hour window, depending on subscription type.
    4. If the charge still does not appear, investigate as an unexpected charge/reporting issue
      Recommended actions are:
      • Review the invoice that has charges for the resource.
      • Review invoiced charges in Cost analysis.
      • Analyze audit logs.
      • Analyze user permissions to the resource’s parent scope.
      • Create an Azure support request if the charge still cannot be identified.

The provided documentation does not list a Bastion-specific service name or meter name for Cost Management reporting, so only the general Cost Analysis and charge investigation guidance is supported here.
