Autoworkplacejoin reg key needs to be disabled

Hi ,

We want to disable autoworkplacejoin reg key in the windows 10 workstations.

Path-Hklm\software\policies\microsoft\windows\workplacejoin\autoworkplacejoin=1

But as soon as we manually turn to '0', this key comes back as '1' after machine restart.

We tried to check if this was pushed by GPO,

But gpedit--Computerconfiguration--Administrativetemplates--windows components--deviceregistration--registered domain joined computers as devices is set to not configured

How do we know what's causing this? Could this be a bios level setting?

If yes, kindly help to share how to find this!

Cheers

Priya

    Hello Priya,

You can set the value of this registry key using the GPO setting "Register domain joined computers as devices". You can find it here: "Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Device Registration".

gpedit.msc only shows the local policy, not the GPOs applied from your domain, which is why you see "Not Configured" there.

Run this as an admin on an affected machine and open the report.

    gpresult /h gpo.html

In this report under "Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Device Registration", the GPO column shows which domain GPO sets it. Change the setting in that GPO (Disabled writes 0) and the value will stop coming back after a restart.

About the BIOS you asked - it can´t be the source for these behaviour.

    Best regards Alex
