    Hello

    Welcome to the Microsoft Windows Community

    Goodnight. Let's try to remove the app and disable pop-ups:

    1. Download the MCPR tool.
    2. Double-click MCPR.exe.
    3. If you see a security warning, click Yes, Continue, or Run (depending on your version of Windows).
    4. On the McAfee Software Removal screen:
    5. Click Next.
    6. Click Agree to accept the End User License Agreement (EULA).
    7. In the Security Validation screen:
    8. Type the characters exactly as shown on your screen. Validation is case-sensitive.
    9. Click Next. This step prevents the accidental use of MCPR.

    A clean boot helps determine if a background program is interfering with the system.

    1. Press the Windows + R keys, type msconfig, and click OK;

    2. In the System Configuration window, click the Services tab;

    3. At the bottom of the screen, check the Hide all Microsoft services box and click Disable all;

    4. Now, click the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager;

    5. In the Task Manager window, on the Startup tab, disable all non-Microsoft programs, close Task Manager, click OK in System Configuration, and restart the computer.

    Those pop-ups are commonly either browser notifications or scam-style alerts, not proof that McAfee is actually installed or that the PC is infected.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. In Microsoft Edge, check whether pop-up blocking is enabled:
      • Press Alt + F > Settings.
      • Go to Cookies and site permissions > Pop-ups and redirects.
      • Make sure Block (recommended) is turned on.
    2. If the pop-ups continue, turn off suspicious website notifications in Edge:
      • Open Edge.
      • Go to Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Notifications.
      • Remove or block any websites that are not recognized or were not intentionally allowed.
    3. Check Edge extensions:
      • Press Alt + F > Extensions > Manage extensions.
      • Turn off all installed extensions temporarily.
      • If the pop-ups stop, turn extensions back on one at a time to find the one causing it.
    4. Update Edge:
      • Press Alt + F > Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
      • Let it install any available update, then restart Edge if prompted.
    5. Block third-party cookies:
      • In Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data.
      • Turn on Block third-party cookies.
    6. Clear browsing data in Edge.
    7. Run a malware scan with Windows Security.

    Important:

    • Microsoft notes that some pop-ups are actually website advertisements made to look like system warnings.
    • Microsoft will never call unexpectedly to say there is a problem with the computer.
    • If the alert asks to call “support” or pay immediately, treat it as a scam.

    If McAfee is not intentionally installed, these alerts are especially likely to be browser notifications or deceptive ads rather than real antivirus warnings.
