Those right-side pop-ups are often website notifications in Microsoft Edge, not normal browser pop-up windows. They can keep appearing even when Edge is closed.
Try these steps in order:
- Block or remove the sites sending notifications
- In Edge, open Settings and more.
- Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All sites.
- Select the website that is sending the notifications.
- Find Notifications and change it to Block.
- If there are multiple suspicious sites, repeat for each one.
- Check notifications from the address bar while on a site
- Open the site.
- Select View site information to the left of the address bar.
- Under Permissions for this site > Notifications, choose Block.
- Make sure Edge pop-up blocking is enabled
- In Edge, open Settings.
- Go to Cookies and site permissions.
- Open Pop-ups and redirects.
- Make sure Block (recommended) is turned on.
- If pop-ups still appear, check the common causes
- Update Microsoft Edge.
- Turn off installed extensions one at a time to find whether one is causing the issue.
- Turn on Block third-party cookies in Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data.
- Clear the browser cache.
- Scan the PC for unwanted software or malware
- Excessive ads that are hard to close can be a sign of unwanted software.
- Run a malware scan with Windows Security / Microsoft Defender.
- If a pop-up freezes Edge or takes over the screen
- Right-click Start and select Task Manager.
- Select Processes.
- Under Apps, right-click Microsoft Edge and select End task.
- Reopen Edge afterward.
Important distinction:
- If the messages are appearing in the lower-right or right side of the screen, they may be website notifications.
- If they open inside Edge as new windows or tabs, they are more likely browser pop-ups.
- Some ads inside a webpage are designed to look like pop-ups and cannot be blocked by the Edge pop-up blocker.
