Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
A custom domain can be connected to only one Microsoft 365 tenant at a time. If onlineyashraj.com still appears as in use after removing it from the old account, the remaining steps are:
- Sign in to the old Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Move all users off that domain:
- Go to Users > Active users.
- Select affected users.
- Select Change domains and choose a different domain.
- If the admin account uses that domain, change the username under Users > Active users > select the account > Account > Manage username, then sign out and sign back in with the new domain.
- Move all groups and distribution lists off that domain:
- Go to Teams & groups > Active teams & groups.
- Open each Microsoft 365 group, Teams-connected group, and distribution list using the domain.
- Under General > Aliases > Edit, change the Primary email address to another domain and save.
- Confirm the domain is not:
- the default domain
- used by any users, shared mailboxes, resource mailboxes, or contacts
- used by any Microsoft 365 groups, distribution lists, or Teams
- used for sign-in by any admin accounts
- Remove the domain:
- Go to Settings > Domains.
- Select the domain.
- Select Remove domain.
If the old tenant is a GoDaddy-managed Microsoft 365 account, use the official GoDaddy defederation process. Microsoft recommends following GoDaddy’s documented steps and contacting GoDaddy support if there are issues.
If the process still does not work, manual removal requires support assistance:
- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Select Help & Support at the bottom right.
- In Support Assistant, enter the issue.
- Review the results, then select Contact support if needed.
