Installation fails with "WebView2 Runtime is already installed" error, but WebView2 is not working properly

I am trying to install an application that requires Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. However, the installation fails with the following error message:

"Installation failed. The Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is already installed for the system."User's image

The issue is that although WebView2 appears to be installed, it is not functioning correctly. I previously uninstalled Microsoft Edge using Revo Uninstaller, which may have caused WebView2 to be broken or incomplete.

When I try to install WebView2 manually, it says it's already installed andUser's image

won't reinstall it properly.

Could you please advise on how to:

  1. Completely remove WebView2 and reinstall it freshUser's image
  2. Or any other workaround to get this application working

Attached are screenshots of the error messages I'm receiving.

    Type regedit in the search on the taskbar to launch Registry.

    Go to:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Clients\

    Right click on

    {F3017226-FE2A-4295-8BDF-00C3A9A7E4C5}

    and delete it.

    Go to this link https://developer.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge/webview2?form=MA13LH

    Download and install Webview2.

    This usually means the WebView2 Runtime registration is still present, but the runtime is damaged or incomplete.

    Try this in order:

    1. Check whether WebView2 Runtime is listed
      • Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
      • Look for Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime.
      • If it is listed, that confirms Windows still thinks the runtime is installed.
    2. Reinstall WebView2 using the official installer
    3. Remove the stale WebView2 registration from the registry
      • Warning: Editing the registry is risky. Incorrect changes can cause system problems.
      • On 64-bit Windows, check these locations:
        • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Clients\{F3017226-FE2A-4295-8BDF-00C3A9A7E4C5}
        • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Clients\{F3017226-FE2A-4295-8BDF-00C3A9A7E4C5}
      • On 32-bit Windows, check these locations:
        • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Clients\{F3017226-FE2A-4295-8BDF-00C3A9A7E4C5}
        • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Clients\{F3017226-FE2A-4295-8BDF-00C3A9A7E4C5}
      • Delete the WebView2 client key shown above.
      • Then run the WebView2 installer again.
    4. If installation or repair still fails, use standard Edge installation troubleshooting
      • Run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter from: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
      • Make sure there is enough free disk space.
      • Run the installer with administrator rights.
      • Temporarily disable antivirus or firewall software if it is blocking installation.
    5. If the app still does not work after reinstall
      • Some apps check for WebView2 and reinstall it when the app starts.
      • If the runtime remains broken after reinstall, the issue may be with the app’s WebView2 detection or with the Edge update components.
      • In that case, collect the exact installer behavior and escalate through Microsoft Support if needed.

    Also note:

    • WebView2 is preinstalled on Windows 11 and installed on most Windows 10 devices.
    • Many apps built on WebView2 can trigger reinstallation checks when they are installed or launched.
