Hello, I have followed the various instructions for removing a watermark from a word document (using the 'design' and 'header' sections) but nothing appears to be working. Any help please?

Watermarks, in Word, are images in the header.

They may or may not have been placed there and marked by the Insert Watermark command.

Go to a page that has an unwanted watermark. Edit the Header. Click on the image and press Delete.

Repeat as needed.

If the watermark will not remove through Design > Watermark > Remove Watermark, it is often because it is actually placed inside the header as a floating image or WordArt object. Double-click near the top of the page to open the header, then click around the page until the watermark itself becomes selectable. Press Delete. Repeat for different sections if the document has section breaks.

Also check whether the “watermark” is actually a page background, shape, or image anchored behind text. Go to Home > Select > Selection Pane and look for faded objects, WordArt, or pictures. Select and delete them there.

If the document is protected, in compatibility mode, or generated from PDF conversion, the watermark may be embedded into the page itself instead of being a normal watermark. In that case, try Save As > .docx first, then reopen and remove it again. If still stuck, the watermark may be part of the original page image/background and not separately removable.

Which version of Word do you have? If you have the full version running under Windows, you can definitely remove a watermark via the header/footer. If your document contains multiple headers/footers, just make sure you access the correct one.

Have you tried double-clicking the header area? What happens when you do? Do you see the watermark somewhere? If Word indicates that you are in a First Page Header, for example, and you do not see the anchored watermark object, try looking in other headers.
