To host or create meetings in Teams for personal use, sign in with a personal Microsoft account—or create one free when Teams prompts you to create an account.

Set up your personal Teams account

If you already use Outlook.com, OneDrive, or Xbox, use that same email address or phone number because it is already a Microsoft account.^1^

    On Windows or Mac:

    1. Open the Microsoft Teams app.
    2. Select Get started.
    3. Enter your personal email address or phone number and select Next.
    4. Enter your password or verification code, then select Sign in.
    5. If you do not have a Microsoft account, choose:
      • With friends and family for personal calls and meetings, or
      • For my small business for collaboration.
    6. Complete the account-creation prompts.

    On the web:

    1. Open Teams on the web.
    2. Enter your personal Microsoft account and select Next, or select No account? Create one!
    3. Complete the sign-in or account-creation process.

    On a phone or tablet:

    1. Open the Teams app.
    2. Enter your personal email address or phone number and tap Next.
    3. If needed, select Create a free account.
    4. Complete the prompts and sign in.

    Create a meeting

    Desktop or web:

    1. Open the Meet tab.
    2. Select Create a meeting link.
    3. Enter a descriptive meeting title.
    4. Under Meeting links, select:
      • Share link to send the invitation, or
      • Join to enter the meeting.

    Mobile:

    1. Open Meet or Chat.
    2. Select Meet, enter a meeting name, and tap Start meeting.
    3. Select Share meeting invite or Copy meeting link.
    4. Set your audio and video preferences, then tap Join now.

The free personal version supports meetings with up to 100 participants for up to 60 minutes.^2^

If Teams opens the wrong account

If Teams is currently using a work or school account:

    1. Select your profile picture.
    2. Choose Add personal account.
    3. Sign in with the personal Microsoft account.
    4. Select the profile picture again whenever you need to switch between accounts.^1^

A person who only receives your meeting link can join the meeting without being a member of an organization or having a Teams account; the account requirement applies when creating and hosting the personal meeting.^3^

Do you have a personal Microsoft account?

If not, you can sign up for one via https://account.live.com

Then use that account to sign into Team.
