Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Hello,
Yes. If you haven’t turned on two-step verification, you can generally sign in to your Microsoft account with your password alone.
However, Microsoft may ask you to verify your identity in certain situations,
for example, when you access sensitive information such as your BitLocker recovery key, sign in from a new device, location, or browser, open your account’s security settings, or during the password reset process. In these cases, you may need to enter a verification code sent to one of your alternate security contact methods.
Microsoft may also block an unusual sign-in attempt. The next time you sign in, you may be asked to enter a verification code to confirm your identity. These security measures help protect your account from attackers. So,
- Are you having trouble verifying your identity using your alternate contact email address? Are you unable to access that email to get the verification code?
- Do you have any recovery methods other than your recovery email address?
Let me know what difficulty you’re having signing in, and I’ll do my best to help.
