Your software keeps sending me in circles I’ve spent HOurs trying and it is super frustrating. I have the family safety app. It says I need to go to the website but your instructions don’t line up with what is actually on the page. Your software ware is way to complicated and I’m about to drop your family safety app because it is so not user friendly and I’ve wasted so much time just trying to play Minecraft with family

    Hi larissa mchaney,

I can understand why this has been so frustrating, especially after spending hours being redirected between the app and the website.

The setting you need may be easier to find in the Xbox Family Settings app, rather than the Microsoft Family Safety app. Sign in with the adult account that is listed as an organizer, select your child’s profile, then go to: Settings > Content restrictions > Manage Minecraft

From there, enable Multiplayer. If your child needs to join a Minecraft Realm, also enable Clubs. If Minecraft itself is restricted by the age filter, turn on Allow game as well.

After saving the changes, have your child sign out of Minecraft and the Xbox app, then sign back in before testing again.

If the Manage Minecraft option is not shown, please check that the adult account is an organizer and that the child’s Microsoft account appears as a member of the same family group. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Sign in with the adult organizer account at https://aka.ms/XboxPrivSettings, select the child’s Xbox profile, and allow the multiplayer permissions there—not in the Microsoft Family Safety app.

    Change the Minecraft permissions

    1. Open https://aka.ms/XboxPrivSettings in a browser.
    2. Sign in with the adult Microsoft account listed as an Organizer in your family group. Children can view their settings but cannot manage them themselves.^1^
    3. Select the child’s gamertag/profile.
    4. Open Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10/11 devices Online Safety or View details & customize.
    5. Set these options:
      • You can join multiplayer games → Allow
      • You can play with people outside of Xbox services / You can join cross-network play → Allow
      • Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites → Friends or Everyone
Multiplayer and cross-network play are separate Xbox privileges, so both may be needed when the other players use different platforms.^2^
    6. Select Submit at the bottom of the page. Leaving the page without submitting can discard the changes.^3^
    7. On the child’s Windows 11 PC:
      • Sign out of Minecraft Launcher and the Xbox app.
      • Sign back in to both with the child’s Microsoft account.
      • Start Minecraft and test multiplayer again.

If the child’s profile is not displayed

Check https://account.microsoft.com/family while signed in with the parent account. The parent must appear as Organizer, and the child must appear as a family member; organizers are the accounts that manage family permissions.^4^

If another adult originally created or manages the family group, that adult may need to make the change.

If the settings show Allow but Minecraft remains blocked

Allow time for the change to update, then have the child sign out and back in again. If it is still blocked after the permissions are saved, use Contact Microsoft Support, enter the Minecraft multiplayer/family-permission problem, select Get Help, and then Contact Support.^5^
