Test the Surface display with the standard sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile, then select ICM in the Canon TR4700 printing preferences if that option is available.
1. Test the sRGB display profile
A screenshot can look correct on the display yet be converted incorrectly when passed through the image-printing color-management path. Similar tinted-capture behavior has been associated with the Windows color profile.^1^
- Search Windows for Color Management and open it.
- On the Devices tab, select the Surface display.
- Photograph or write down the current profile so the change is reversible.
- Select Use my settings for this device.
- Select Add.
- Choose sRGB IEC61966-2.1, then select OK.
- Select that profile and choose Set as Default Profile.
- Close and reopen Snipping Tool, make a new capture, and print it.
If the result does not improve, restore the profile recorded in step 3.
2. Change Canon’s image color correction
Canon documents ICM as a supported color-correction choice for the TR4700 driver.^2^
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Canon TR4700.
- Open Printing preferences.
- Look under Main, Color/Intensity, Manual, or Matching.
- Change Color Correction to ICM.
- Verify that Media Type matches the paper actually loaded, and print the screenshot again. Incorrect media settings can affect output color.^3^
If those Canon controls are absent, the Surface is probably using a Windows class driver rather than Canon’s full driver. Do not block on this step; continue below.
3. Isolate the screenshot and printing paths
- In Snipping Tool, save a new capture as PNG.
- Open the saved PNG in Paint.
- Print it from Paint rather than directly from Snipping Tool.
- Also insert the same PNG into Word and print it.
Interpret the results as follows:
- Paint or Word prints correctly: the direct Snipping Tool printing path is implicated. Use saved PNG files as a workaround, then repair Snipping Tool.
- All three print green: the shared image/color-management path is more likely, although the PNG or its profile metadata can still contribute.
- A screenshot made on the old Surface prints correctly from the new Surface: the new Surface’s capture/profile layer is implicated.
- A new-Surface screenshot also prints green from the old Surface: the saved image itself is implicated.
4. Optionally repair Snipping Tool
This is a diagnostic for the app layer, not an established fix for green printing:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Snipping Tool, select … → Advanced options.
- Select Repair and retest.
- Only if Repair fails, select Reset. Reset can remove the app’s saved settings and data.^4^
5. Reinstall the printer using the ARM-compatible path
Surface Laptop 7 uses an ARM-based processor. Printer functionality can be limited when the manufacturer does not supply a compatible ARM64 driver; Microsoft recommends installing through Windows Settings when a manufacturer installer cannot be used.^5^
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the TR4700 and choose Remove.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Printers & scanners and select Add device.
- Allow Windows to discover and install it rather than manually running an incompatible x64 Canon installer.
- Run Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates, including optional driver updates.
Microsoft specifically notes that some ARM PCs cannot use included or manufacturer printer installers and directs users to add the printer through Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners instead.^6^
Because ordinary documents print correctly, nozzle cleaning is not the first action. Use Canon’s nozzle check and cleaning procedure only if non-screenshot documents also begin showing incorrect colors.^7^
