Add existing email alias to Outlook for Mac

I already have an email alias for my Google business account, and I need to add it to my Outlook for Mac app. Can someone provide simple steps to do this?

I think my app version is for home, and I think its the New Outlook, so I'm selecting that tag, but it doesn't specify either of those things in my About Outlook window.

Thanks!

What version does About Outlook say you have?

What happens when you try to Add Account? Any error messages? (It's in Outlook app menu > Settings)

Enter your address and password and Outlook should do the rest - it will bring up the google dialog to sign in and you need to give permission for Outlook to access it. Enabling the permissions is required since google uses oAuth2.

I should add that this alias email already appears in this account when viewed in the Gmail app in my phone. I'm trying to get it to appear on my desktop, where I prefer to use the Outlook app.

    I have Outlook version 16.114.4 (26110224)

When I tried to Add Account, I first entered my alias email, went through several screens of signing in to Google Apps and Services, and it eventually told me "email addresses do not match" and asked if I wanted to add the non-alias address! So I tried again from the point of signing in, this time using the alias email address, and it said it couldn't sign me in. Last I tried entering my non-alias address at the start, and of course ended up at the end of the process with a screen telling me that address had already been added. So I'm stuck.
