Hello @Chesson, Ben (DSIT),
Based on my testing, a standard Microsoft Teams group chat remains active and fully usable by the remaining participants after the person who originally created the chat leaves. The chat is not dependent on the original creator remaining in the conversation.
In my testing, when the creator left the group chat, the other members were still able to access the existing chat history, send new messages, and continue the conversation without interruption. The only impact was that the user who left could no longer participate in or receive messages from the chat unless they were re-added by another participant.

This behavior is also consistent with the guidance provided by Microsoft Teams documentation, which states that leaving a group chat removes that user's access to future conversations but does not remove the chat or its history for the remaining participants. Messages from users who have left remain visible in the chat history.

Therefore, based on both testing and the documented behavior, the other participants can continue using the group chat normally after the original creator leaves, and there should be no risk of the chat becoming unusable simply because the person who started it has departed.
I hope this helps. If you still need any confirmation, please feel free to leave a comment.
