PowerPoint for iPhone intermittently shows blank/white slides or image placeholders in valid PPTX files

I am experiencing an intermittent rendering issue in Microsoft PowerPoint for iPhone. Multiple valid .PPTX presentations sometimes open with blank/white slides, solid-color slides, or generic image placeholder icons instead of the actual slide content. Sometimes only a few slides render correctly while the remaining slides fail to display.

The important point is that the problem is intermittent: the exact same PPTX file can fail to render, and then later open perfectly—with all slides and speaker notes visible—without the file being modified.

The same presentations open and display correctly in PowerPoint on my Mac.

I have already performed extensive troubleshooting with Microsoft Support:

  • Restarted the iPhone.
  • Updated iOS to the latest available version.
  • Updated Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Completely deleted and reinstalled PowerPoint from the App Store.
  • Confirmed the affected files are valid .PPTX (Office Open XML) presentations.
  • Confirmed PowerPoint is the default app for PPTX files in iOS Files.
  • Tested multiple different PPTX presentations.
  • Reproduced the issue with presentations stored in both OneDrive and iCloud Drive.
  • Copied an affected presentation to local “On My iPhone” storage and reproduced the same issue there, ruling out OneDrive/iCloud as the sole cause.
  • Opened an affected presentation in desktop PowerPoint on my Mac, saved it as a brand-new PPTX with a different filename, uploaded the newly saved copy to OneDrive, and reproduced the problem again on the iPhone.
  • After that failure, I reopened that exact same newly saved PPTX later, without modifying it, and it displayed perfectly, including speaker notes.

PowerPoint for iPhone version: 2.114.26092517.

Because the same unmodified PPTX can fail on one attempt and display correctly on another, this appears to be an intermittent PowerPoint for iOS rendering/loading issue rather than permanent PPTX file corruption.

Microsoft Support already reviewed the case and advised me to raise the issue in the Microsoft technical community after the standard troubleshooting steps were exhausted. I also have screenshots showing the different failure states.

Has anyone encountered this behavior in the current PowerPoint for iPhone version? Is this a known PowerPoint for iOS rendering issue, and is there a reliable workaround or fix other than completely resetting the iPhone?

    Hello Iglesia Advenimiento,

Thank you for documenting the issue and the troubleshooting you have already completed.

Since the same unmodified presentations display correctly on your Mac and can later open normally on the same iPhone, this does not appear to be permanent file corruption or a problem limited to OneDrive or iCloud.

As the standard troubleshooting steps have already been exhausted, I recommend reporting this directly from PowerPoint so that the app can include diagnostic information:

    1. Open PowerPoint on the iPhone.
    2. Select your profile icon and open Help & Feedback.
    3. Choose Send Feedback or Report a Problem.
    4. Include the PowerPoint version, iPhone model, iOS version, screenshots, and the approximate time when the problem last occurred.

As a temporary workaround, you could open the presentation on your Mac and export a PDF copy for viewing on the iPhone. This will not preserve animations or editable speaker notes, but it may provide a dependable way to view the slides until the rendering problem is resolved.

Because Microsoft Support previously reviewed the case, you may also contact them again and provide the existing case number together with the new screenshots and feedback submission details. This may help them associate the report with the earlier investigation.

You can also refer to Microsoft’s guidance for submitting Office feedback:

How to give feedback on Microsoft 365

I would avoid resetting the entire iPhone at this stage, since the issue affects multiple valid presentations intermittently and persists across local and cloud storage.

Feel free reply back to this post if you need further assistance, I'll be happy to help.
