Other Intune-related topics, including unsupported scenarios and platform-specific behaviors
This usually appears because Outlook on Android is checking for the Microsoft Intune Company Portal app as part of your organization’s app protection setup.
Supported causes in this scenario include:
- Outlook has been offline for a long time, so the user is signed out according to an existing app protection policy.
- After a system update, Outlook may no longer detect that Company Portal is installed, so Outlook can’t get the expected access token and goes offline.
- On Android, Company Portal is required for Microsoft 365 apps such as Outlook to receive and enforce Intune app protection policies.
If this started suddenly, common triggers are:
- A recent Android system update.
- Outlook or Company Portal being outdated or removed.
- The phone failing app protection policy validation.
What to do:
- Check whether Intune Company Portal is installed on the phone. If not, install it from Google Play, Amazon Appstore for Android, or the Microsoft download listed in the documentation.
- Make sure Outlook and Company Portal are updated.
- On Android, turn off battery optimization for Outlook and Company Portal.
- Change the app Launch setting for both apps from Automatic to Manage Manually, and enable:
- Auto-launch
- Secondary launch
- Run in background
- If Data Saver is enabled, allow unrestricted data usage for Outlook and Company Portal.
- Enable notifications for both apps.
If apps still do not work after that, collect Outlook diagnostics in Outlook for Android:
- Go to Help & Feedback.
- Select Collect Diagnostics.
- Select Get Started.
- Select Collect Logs.
Then provide the incident ID to Microsoft Support through the Intune admin center.
