I am not receiving a code through my phone after entering the last 4 digits of my phone number

Good evening,

I am unable to get into the family safety app to approve any action my son takes on his laptop. I enter in the last 4 digits of my phone number but a code never comes. I have checked that there is no blocking of text messages and there is nothing wrong with my service. I am not sure how to proceed.

Thank you for your time.

Jenn

    Hi!

Use the guide below if you are not receiving the verification code by phone.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Stop requesting new codes repeatedly. Too many attempts can trigger a temporary block and prevent Microsoft from sending codes.
    2. On the verification screen, select I don't have a code to request another one.
    3. Check the phone itself:
      • Make sure the inbox is not full.
      • If a messaging app is being used, make sure it is working correctly.
      • If any third-party security or filtering app is installed, disable it temporarily and request the code again.
    4. Confirm the number is a mobile number, not a VOIP number. VOIP numbers can't be used to receive Microsoft verification codes.
    5. Try a different verification method if one is available on the account, such as email.
    6. If the issue may be network-related, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, or try another network, then request the code again.
    7. Wait and try again later. Microsoft can temporarily delay or block code delivery because of unusual activity, repeated requests, or heavy compromised traffic from a region. If 24 hours does not help, wait longer, up to 1 week.
    8. Verify the security info on the account:
      • For a personal Microsoft account, sign in to the Security basics page and select Update info: https://account.microsoft.com/security
      • If another method works, use it to confirm the phone number is still correct.
    9. If no code arrives and no other method works, use the sign-in helper: Sign-in helper

Important: support agents can't send verification codes or change account details for account protection.
