An Azure platform as a service offer that is used to deploy web and cloud applications.
GitHub Student Developer Pack approval does not activate or guarantee Azure for Students eligibility; because direct academic verification has already failed, submit an Azure for Education support request for an account-specific review.
Request the eligibility review
- Open the Azure for Education support route:
https://aka.ms/azsuportedu - Select Azure for Students as the product or topic.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the rejected MS-AZR-0170P activation.
- Include:
- The exact error: “You’re not eligible for an Azure free account.”
- The offer ID: MS-AZR-0170P.
- Your university name and confirmation that you are a full-time undergraduate.
- Your institutional email domain.
- A screenshot of the failed Azure verification.
- Your official enrollment verification report.
- A screenshot of the GitHub Education approval.
- The dates and approximate times of the failed attempts.
- A request to review:
- Academic-verification status.
- Whether the institutional email domain is recognized.
- Account and country/region information.
- Whether a previous redemption or other account restriction is blocking the offer.
Do not post enrollment documents or account identifiers publicly in Microsoft Q&A; provide them only through the support case.
A closely matched Microsoft Q&A case directs users whose institutional domain or academic verification is not accepted to Azure for Education support for manual review. It also confirms that GitHub Education and Azure use separate verification systems.^1^
Eligibility points to check before submitting
Azure for Students formally requires that you:
- Are at least 18 years old.
- Attend an accredited, degree-granting two-year or four-year institution as a full-time student.
- Verify academic status through your institution’s email address.
- Have no prior Azure for Students redemption that would violate the limit of one subscription per eligible customer.^2^
Having no currently active Azure subscription does not by itself establish eligibility. The offer limit applies per eligible customer, so ask support to check for a previous, expired, canceled, or otherwise associated Azure for Students redemption.
The offer terms also state that activations are limited, the offer is available while supplies last, and other restrictions may apply.^3^
If support asks you to retry verification
Since you have already encountered academic-verification errors, retry only if support changes or clears the verification state. Then:
- Use the institutional email account requested by the Azure application—not GitHub approval alone.
- Ensure the submitted name and university information match the enrollment document.
- Use the same Microsoft account referenced in the support request.
- Record the new error, timestamp, and screenshot if activation still fails, then update the existing case rather than opening repeated registrations.
Only Microsoft support can inspect or change account-specific verification, offer-redemption history, regional data, or eligibility restrictions; these cannot be reviewed from a public Q&A post.
