Use the Windows Scan app to select the scanner in your all-in-one printer, choose the document source and file type, and save the scan to your preferred folder.^1^
Scan a document or picture
- Turn on the printer/scanner.
- Load the item:
- Flatbed: Place it face down on the glass and close the lid.
- Document feeder: Insert it as indicated on the printer; orientation varies by model.
- In Windows 11, select Start, search for Windows Scan, and open Scan.
- If it is not installed, search for Windows Scan in the Microsoft Store and install it.
- In the Scan app, configure:
- Scanner: Select your printer/scanner.
- Source: Choose Flatbed, Feeder, or Auto-configured.
- File type: Choose JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or Bitmap.
- Show more → Save file to: Select the destination folder.
- Select Scan at the bottom of the window.
- When scanning finishes, select View to open the result or Close to scan another item.
If no destination was selected, the file is saved in your user folder under Pictures\Scans.^1^
If the scanner is not available in the app
- Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select your printer.
- Look for Scanner settings. An all-in-one device may be listed only by its printer name, but the presence of Scanner settings confirms that Windows also recognizes its scanner.^1^
- If the device is absent, return to Printers & scanners and select Add device beside Add printer or scanner.
- For a wireless printer, ensure the computer and printer are connected to the same wireless network.
- If Windows detects only the printer and does not show Scanner settings, install the complete scanner/software package supplied by the printer manufacturer rather than only a basic print driver.
The exact buttons on the printer itself differ by manufacturer and model. For instructions on scanning directly from its control panel, use the printer’s manual or manufacturer-provided scanning application.
